TASTER SESSIONS
There will be a turn up and row taster session on Monday 27th May, which will take place from Victoria Pier between 9am and 12noon. It is always good to have the support of club members on these occasions, not just as rowers but to chat to potential new members. Join us if you are able.
Shanty singing
Tuesday May 7th
The Mariners Hotel
The shanty singers were requested to provide after dinner entertainment by a group of friends who visit Lyme annually, and have done so for 25 years.
It was a fun evening and we were so well received by an appreciative audience.
Apparently we were the best entertainment they had had in all 25 years! We raised £160.00 for club funds, very worthwhile.
Our next performance will be Newlands Holiday Park on 21st June. This will be part of the Beer Festival.
Future performances include Lifeboat Week on 1st August and Lyme Folk Festival at the end of August.
If you would like to join the Shanty Singers please contact Christine Newton missychrissy@btinternet.com where you can find out details of our practice sessions.

LYME REGIS FIGHT IT OUT ON THE DART
Lyme Regis Gig Club
travelled down to race at the Dart Pilot Gig Club Regatta on Saturday 6th April for what is a keenly contested
series of races with nine competitive clubs including Caradon, Cattewater,
Ilfracombe, Teign, Rame, Dart, Appledore, Salcombe.
The Dart Gig Regatta
start line was just seaward of the town’s higher ferry and the 1.2 mile course
went down the river mouth to two marker buoys beneath the picturesque castle and
back with a finish line adjacent to Dartmouth Sailing Club. The racing started
just after midday as the high tide turned and with sunny weather, cool, light
south easterly wind, made for a wonderful afternoon’s event. Excellent viewing
for spectators, fantastic hospitality from the Dart Pilot Gig Club and a
meandering harbour dolphin followed the boats as they left the pontoon.
Lyme Regis fielded teams
in all the nine races with Lyme Ladies A & B both coming 8th; Lyme Regis
Men’s A came 6th, and the B’s 4th. In the veterans races
Lyme’s Ladies came 6th and the Men came 7th, both
the Lyme Ladies and Men’s C crew’s came 4th and the Mixed Crew came 7th.

The first taster session of the new season did not go according to plan!
Nevertheless, a good number of hardy rowers turned out to brave the icy, easterly, wind to meet and greet the half-dozen, or so, prospective new rowers who were interested enough to turn up in such adverse conditions. ( just the spirit we need!)
With "Rebel" on the sand to show off her beauty, "Revenge" was used for the taster to take the form of "land based" instruction, proficiently undertaken by Henry.
